Myasthenia gravis and neosporosis in a dog. A case report

A five-year-old German Shorthair Pointer was presented to the I. Medizinische Tierklinik of the University of Munich due to dysphagia, gagging, pendulant head and hind limb stiffness. Clinical, neurological, laboratory, radiologic, electrodiagnostic and serologic examination revealed the diagnosis acquired myasthenia gravis and infection with Neospora caninum. Therapy consisted of feeding management, symptomatic treatment of aspiration pneumonia, megaoesophagus, myasthenia gravis (pyridostigmin) and etiologic therapy against N. caninum with sulfonamides. Initially signs improved under treatment, Disregarding this, the owner decided to have the dog euthanized. Therefore a continuous follow-up could not be documented.
