Hydrogen susceptibility of an interstitial free steel

Hydrogen influence of Ti-bearing interstitial free steel has been evaluated using electrochemical permeation measurement and tensile test in this study. Permeation trapping and mechanical property effects were studied as a function of cold work for the interstitial free steel with extra-deep drawing quality. Metallographic and fractographic investigations revealed that hydrogen absorption promoted transgranular fracture in cold-rolled specimen. These results show that the cold-rolled interstitial free steel is susceptible to hydrogen embrittlement. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
