This chapter defines technology transfer and describes the stages of technology transfer in the field of substance use prevention. The authors note the relevance of concepts surrounding (1) innovation and change and (2) diffusion for transferring preventive intervention technologies. The authors then consider factors that influence the success and speed of technology transfer, and discuss strategies to enhance the technology transfer of interventions for preventing substance use.
