Adding knowledge to information retrieval systems in the World Wide Web

摘要
Common systems used to provide medical information on the World Wide Web have several shortcomings related to the quality of information retrieval and the maintenance of contents. In this paper a model of a knowledge-based information system is presented. The model provides a formalism for an explicit representation of domain knowledge. This domain knowledge is used to increase precision and recall of retrieval and for consistency checks. Additional knowledge concerning user types enables the system to generate user dependant views on information. Based on the model an architecture for a knowledge-based information system is described. A prototype is developed in the domain of ophthalmology.
