Magnetic properties of heusler alloys Ru2MnZ (Z = Si, Ge, Sn and Sb)

Crystallographic and magnetic properties of the ternary alloys Ru(2)MnZ (Z = Si, Ge, Sn and Sb) have been investigated by means of X-ray and magnetic analysis. Ru(2)MnZ (Z = Ge, Sn and Sb) have the L2(1) (Heusler-type) structure. Ru2MnSi is obtained in partially disordered form(Ru-Si disorder). The Neel temperature T-N, the paramagnetic Curie temperature theta(p) and the effective magnetic moment p(c) deduced from the Curie constant are T-N = 313 K, theta(p) = 21.4 K, p(c) = 2.8 mu(B) for Ru2MnSi, T-N = 316 K, theta(p) = -46.3 K, p(c) = 3.2 mu(B) for Ru2MnGe, T-N, = 296 K, theta(p) = - 120.1 K, p(c) = 2.8 mu(B) for Ru2MnSn and T-N = 195 K, theta(p) = 91.4 K, p(c) = 3.9 mu(B) for Ru2MnSb. The exchange constants of Ru(2)MnZ (Z = Si, Ge, Sn and Sb) are determined on the basis of experimental results. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
