Tailoring the bimodal zone in plasma sprayed CNT reinforced YSZ coating and its impact on mechanical and tribological properties

摘要
Carbon nanotube (1 wt%) reinforced nano YSZ coatings was deposited using plasma spraying technique. Four 'key parameters' i.e., plasma power (P), primary gas flow rate (G), powder feed rate (F) and stand-off distance (S) were varied and a total of 24 experiments were carried. In-flight particle temperature and velocities were recorded and analysed to obtain optimized parameters. The bimodal structures were analysed using FE-SEM and correlation between nano grains and the parameters were established. Substantial improvement in the mechanical, adhesion and tribological properties were also observed after reinforcing CNTs in n-YSZ coatings.
