Determination of the reflection coefficient of a plane monochromatic wave

摘要：
It is shown that uniqueness of solution of the problem of reflection of a wave package from a planar surface of transparent, absorbing, and amplifying media does not yield uniqueness of determination of the reflection coefficients of its Fourier-components in the form of plane monochromatic waves. Therefore, the standard Fresnel reflection coefficients are not only the correct but the most convenient quantities, since they provide a simple functional relation between the characteristics of the reflected wave package and its central Fourier-component.
