摘要：

The total synthesis of the α-mannans, α-rhamnans, β-mannans, and β-rhamnans is presented according to the overall strategy employed. The α-mannans and α-rhamnans are discussed in terms of the use of use or not of neighboring-group participation to construct the 1,2-trans-axial glycosidic bond, whereas the β-mannan and β-rhamnan syntheses are classified as either direct or indirect, with the latter requiring additional steps post-glycosylation to achieve the 1,2-cis-equatorial glycosidic linkage. © 2009 Elsevier Inc.
