This piece explores the principles of analytic group psychotherapy which inform the understanding of psychopathology, the conditions and goals of treatment, the use of the group, and the role of the therapist. The clinical example will be considered primarily in contrast to the analytic approach presented here, from which it differs in many significant ways.
