Application of new visualizing agents for selected essential oil components in TLC

Eighteen new visualizing agents have been used for visualization of nineteen standard of essential oil components (hydrocarbons, aliphatic and monocyclic alcohols, phenols, ethers, ketones, and aldehydes) after chromatography on silica gel. The visualizing effects obtained were compared with detection of these compounds by using of iodine vapour and 5% solution potassium dichromate in 40% sulfuric acid. The investigations shown possess qualitative character which concern the detection of determined substances existing in essential oils. The qualitative identification is based on the ground of the R-F values of investigated compounds and on the colour of detected compounds in TLC.
