PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF A POINT ABSORBER WAVE ENERGY CONVERTER

摘要
A numerical model for the evaluation of the performances of point absorber wave energy conversion devices is presented and validated. It is specifically derived for reproducing the motion of a submerged object forced by short waves. The model is based on linearized equations that make it computationally efficient. Validation is carried out using the results of new small scale experiments on a high-buoyancy spherical object connected by a mooring line to the bottom. Despite of the simplifications of the model equations the numerical results satisfactorily agree with the experimental ones also for large movements of the sphere.
