Doppler blood flow velocimetry of maternal intrarenal arteries during pregnancy

The color Doppler method has enabled examination of even smaller vessels In our study we hypothesized that Doppler velocimetry in segmental and interlobar arteries is sensitive enough to detect the increased vascular resistance in hypertension complicated pregnancy. We obtained that for patients with pregnancy induced hypertension (PIH), PI values calculated from interlobar kidney arteries are more useful than those obtained from segmental arteries (p<0.05). Doppler velocimetry based RI values calculated for both arteries are similar in both groups are similar. Based on our results, intrarenal artery Doppler indices, especially PI in interlobar artery, might be of use as a promising guide to clinical decisions.
