Structural, surface morphological and low temperature studies on gadolinium tri chloride (GdCl3)

摘要
Gd3+ compounds receive special interest because of the maximum number of unpaired spins and they are useful in NMR spectroscopy and MRI. So, study on Gadolinium tri chloride has been reported here. The compound crystallizes in hexagonal structure. The particles are spherical and exhibit flake like structure. Low temperature magnetic study from 300 K to 20 K shows decrease of magnetic susceptibility with increase of temperature. M-H curve shows paramagnetic behavior. The compound can be used for UV filters and for optoelectronic applications. Low temperature magnetic study indicates cooperative interaction between the gadolinium spins in the compound.
