摘要：

What can nurses do to gain increased autonomy and influence in bureaucratic settings? One group of nurses at a small, rural, psychiatric hospital used participatory action research as a tool to explore issues of autonomy and found that they were able to successfully challenge the institutional norms and ideas that limit nurses' autonomy.
