Sensors employed for dynamic measurements often show a non-perfect dynamic behaviour. By taking the instantaneous output of the sensor as an estimate of the time-dependent value of the measurand, the so-called dynamic error emerges. We assume that a linear time-invariant system is appropriate to model the dynamic input-output behaviour of the sensor, and we propose digital filtering for the compensation of the dynamic error. A procedure for the design of the digital compensation filter is described, and the evaluation of the uncertainty associated with the application of this filter is considered. Finally, the benefit of the dynamic compensation and proposed uncertainty treatment is illustrated in terms of simulations for a particular relevant dynamic model.
