摘要
Development of a new, accessible method for the assessment of HDL peroxidation status in biological samples. Using this technique for routine analyses would lead to a better assessment of the cardiovascular risk, since not only the blood levels of HDL and LDL matter, but also their oxidation status, their functionality. Blood samples from patients were used for the separation of LDL and HDL with phosphotungstic acid (PTA), subsequently assessing the quantity of oxidized HDL using Amplex Red without horseradish peroxidase (HRP). We successfully used Amplex Red without HRP in the absence of cholesterol oxidase to quantify lipid peroxidation of HDL cholesterol. This new method, being a fast and accessible one, could be extensively used in both research and hospital laboratories, given that it assesses the oxidation status of lipoproteins with few resources
