Spontaneous middle cerebral arterial dissection (MCAD) is a rare cause of ischemic stroke. We report two cases of isolated spontaneous MCAD causing ischemic stroke. MCAD should be considered when a young patient has a middle cerebral artery territory infarct with stenosis at the origin of the middle cerebral artery. We discuss noninvasive radiological techniques for the diagnosis of MCAD. (c) 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
