摘要
The phenomenon of c-business industrial cluster in China has been emerging. Despite the growth in research on the benefits of industrial cluster, our understanding of the process forming the cluster is limited. The study attempts to fill the gap by answering "How has e-business industrial cluster in China been formed?" and "What characterize it?" Applying business ecosystem theory as the theoretical lens, the concept of e-business ecosystem was pointed out first time in this paper to describe the phenomenon of e-business industrial cluster. A case study of Alibaba Group was undertaken to investigate the process that a typical e-business ecosystem in China got shape, developed, and matured. By analyzing the findings from the case study, four stages during e-business ecosystem's evolutionary path and its characteristics are identified. The study has implications for both researchers and practitioners, and valuable for understanding the development of e-business industry in china.
