摘要
Aim: To report the results of newborn hearing screening program in American Hospital and discuss with current literature. Material and Method: All newborns (8052) born in American Hospital between July 2004-June 2009 were included in our study and performed a test program of three steps. Results: Five infants (0 06%) were determined to have bilateral and five infants (0.06%) were determined to have unilateral sensorineural hearing loss. Conclusions: Congenital hearing loss is one of the most common major abnormalities present at birth and if undetected, will impede speech, language, social and cognitive development, orientation to environment, and communication. Newborn hearing screening program is essential to detect congenital hearing loss earlier. Early detection of hearing loss can lead to early intervention and improve clinical outcomes for most children (Turk Arch Ped 2009; 44: 135-7)
