Modeling web service profiles for the Semantic Web: A UML based approach

Considerable research is underway on describing, searching, modeling and composing web services. Particularly, web service on the Semantic Web using OWL-S is receiving a lot of attention because of its potential to create intelligent applications and dramatically change systems development. OWL-S is a service description language based on OWL (Ontology Web Language) for Semantic Web based Web Services (SWWS). OWL-S embodies three parts: service profile, service model, and service grounding. This paper investigates how service profile can be modeled using UML and how requirements analyzed through use case modeling can be transformed into a service profile. We provide some background on web services, followed by current technologies utilized in supporting web services. We then present an UML based meta-model for representing web service profiles and mapping it to service profile sub-ontology.
