Neocomian-Barremian foraminifers and algae from Coastal Fars (South Iran)

The Neocomian-Barremian sediments Fahliyan and Gadvan Formations) of the Zagros area consist of limestone and shale and are deposited on a carbonate shelf. We studied the Neocomian-Barremian biostratigraphy of benthic Foraminifera and calcareous algae in this research. Distinguished faunal assemblage including many index species of the Neocomian-Barremian in Arabian plate such as Praechrysalidina Dokhania) infracretacea Luperto Sinni, Trocholina sp., Praechrysalidina Dokhania) arabica Henson, Pseudocyclammina lituus Yokoyama, Choffatella decipiens Schlumberger and Orbitolina sp., and calcareous algae such as Clypeina dragastnai Dieni & Radoic ic, Salpingoporella annulata Carozzi, Salpingoporella muhlbergi Radoicic, and Salpingoporella dinarica Radoicic. These faunas suggest a Berriasian to Barremian age of Fahliyan and Gadvan Formations. Five biostratigraphical units, three of which are in Golshan-3 based upon the benthic foraminifera and calcareous algae, have been distinguished within this interval: the Pseudochrysalidina Dokhania) arabica zone Berriasian) and P. lituus Valanginian-Hauterivian) and Orbitolina-S. dinarica assemblage zone Barremian). In Ivan-1, two biostratigraphical units have been distinguished: Dokhania-Trocholina assemblage zone Neocomian) and Choffatella-Orbitolina assemblage zone Barremian).
