摘要：

As a green and low-carbon transportation mode, walking is very flexible and punctual. It has a good development foundation in China and it is an ideal transportation method for solving short-distance travel and the connection with public transportation. It is indispensable in the urban transportation system. However, the current road traffic design often just meets the driving demand of drivers, while the pedestrian traffic demand is not considered enough, so the safety and convenience of pedestrians needs to be improved. In order to optimize the traffic environment for pedestrians, the common problems in the design of pedestrian crossing facilities on urban road as well as the suggestions for improvement are proposed, which can be used to provide some reference for road traffic designers.
