The incorporation of magnetic bimetallic oxalate complexes into layered double hydroxides (LDH) has been achieved through a simple ion exchange procedure. The hydrotalcite-like [MgAl(OH)2](No3) LDH were used to insert oxalate-bridged bimetallic complexes in the interlayer space. The exchange was done by suspension of the LDH MgAl-NO3 into a solution of the building blocks required for the formation of bimetallic oxalate-based complexes. Magnetic data revealed that oxalate complex were present in all interlayer spaces. The size of oxalate magnetic complexes along their 3-fold axis, indicated that the oxalate complexes were inserted with their 3-fold axis perpendicular to hydroxide layers. This approach can have applicability in the preparation of molecule-based maginsertederyed into solid-state materials.
