Sub-micrometer barium titanate (BaTiO3) pillar arrays were prepared by nanoparticle electrophoretic deposition and characterized with scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. Well dispersed BaTiO3 nanoparticle suspension in a mixed solvent of 2-methoxyethonal and acetylacetone were prepared by ultrasonication dispersion. By using nanoparticle electrophoretic deposition, BaTiO3 tetragonal prism arrays with controlled crystal structures and architectures were deposited on Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si substrates from the BaTiO3 suspension. A strain hysteresis loop of an isolated micropillar was observed with a scanning probe microscopy (SPM) and a ferroelectric measuring system.
