摘要：
We numerically investigate the failure or yielding of small granular assemblies subjected to an increasing deviatoric stress in a biaxial box. We use a structural mechanics approach, where the packing is considered as a load-bearing structure. In the majority of cases, failure coincides with a structural instability. In other cases, the packing softens, and then fails. We anticipate that this last route to failure will be common in large packings.
