On a widespread inaccuracy in defining the mach number of solitons in a plasma

摘要
An inaccuracy is considered in defining the Mach number of nonlinear acoustic waves in a plasma-a frequent issue in the literature. It is shown that a correct definition of the Mach number is obtained by normalizing the wave velocity to its linear speed, which is to be obtained from the dispersion relation in a given, rather than arbitrary, plasma model.
