Direct and residual effects ofchicken manure fertiliser on growth and biomass yield after seed set in Brachiaria ruziziensis (Poaceae) in West Cameroon
The experiment conducted at the Research and Experimental Farm (REF) ofthe University ofDschang (Cameroon) permitted the study ofthe direct and residual effects offertilization with chicken droppings oflaying hens on the growth and biomass yield ofBrachiaria ruziziensis. The results showed that fertilization significantly increased the height, diameter and biomass yield ofB. ruziziensis compared to the controlplots, both under the direct and residual effect of the fertilizer. The level offertilization corresponding to the 100 kg N/ha dose gave the best results on growth and biomass yield. On the basis ofthese results, fertilization corresponding to the 100 kg N/ha dose with chicken droppings would be recommended at two-year intervals in an intensive production system.
