Crystallisation of an amorphous Al75Ni21Y4 alloy melt-spun ribbon

摘要
A new metastable ternary intermetallic phase having a hexagonal crystal structure, with a= 0.858 +/- 0.017 nm and c=0.924 +/- 0.018 nm, has been identified in the Al-Ni-Y alloy system. This metastable phase was observed to form via a polymorphic crystallisation process from the amorphous phase in an Al75Ni21Y4 alloy melt-spun ribbon, in competition with a fully coupled transformation product consisting of the equilibrium phases Al3Ni and Al16Ni3Y.
