(Figure presented) The entry of the gladiators: Two effects oppose each other for control of the intermetallic interactions within polynuclear (supra)molecular helicates in solution (see picture). Coulombic interactions produce large intermetallic repulsion at short distance, and solvation effects result in a large intermetallic attraction for small pseudo-spherical ions with short interrnetallic separations d. © 2010 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
