摘要
We analyze the characteristics of the radiation emitted by relativistic electrons propagating in variably polarizing undulators. The analysis we develop is general enough to provide the angular and spectral details of the undulator brightness. In particular we discuss the properties of the on-axis radiated spectrum and present some comments on the use of the variably polarizing undulators for the free electron laser operation. We also analyze optical klystron configurations with particular reference to the case of undulators with opposite polarizations. (C) 2000 Published by Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
