Security in mobile ad hoc networks

Mobile network security researchers are involved in tracking emerging technologies and their implications on the security of mobile ad hoc networks (Manets). Security researchers are focusing on securing Manets, ass they are viewed as a key communications technology enabler for network-based warfare and disaster relief operations. Manets are also finding application in other areas, such as intelligent transportation systems and fault-tolerant mobile sensor grids. These networks present significant security challenges, as they are independent computer systems, vulnerable to various security problems that are similar to wired networks. Some of the key features of Manets that differentiate them from wired networks, include lack of well-defined network boundaries for perimeter security and shared medium, collaborative services, and protocols for communications and operation support. © 2008 IEEE.
