Creation of an animation from the perception of gender for children

The definition of gender is a social construction. Early behaviors linked to gender classification are influenced by the social environment in which the child has been inserted since the first years of life. In this context, drawing is considered something natural and spontaneous, socially constructed through social interactions. A research was carried out with 52 students in the fifth grade of elementary school, in order to understand how children perceive gender identity. The results were shown to be either consonant with what society determines as a standard, or not. The boys indicated they prefer to wear a T-shirt, jacket and cap and the girls, dress. However, the choice of favorite colors and toys did not reproduce what society has as a standard. From the investigation came an animation that tells the story of Olivia, a character inserted in a world where a boy uses only blue and a girl uses only pink.
