摘要
We examined histologically the cells and extracellular matrix (ECM) on 42 intraocular lenses (IOLs) and 4 residual lens capsules explanted from patients using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and immunohistochemistry. Macrophages and related cells, in association of collagenous extracellular matrix, were observed on IOL surfaces. TEM revealed the proliferation of lens epithelial cells (LECs) on the posterior capsules. Immunohistochemically, various ECM components were detected in thf opacified capsules in association with LEC proliefartion. The cells express prolyl 4-hydroxylase and alpha-smooth muscle actin (SMA). The results indicate the presence or process of wound healing in lens capsules after cataract surgery.
