摘要：

Many articles in The Chinese Repository in the first half of 19th century shows that western people conventionally translated the national name of China in Qing dynasty into "Mantchou-Chinese" or "Chinese empire". These translations reflected their viewpoints on the character of China in Qing dynasty, which not only affected their cognition on China's territory at that time but also have an impact on China's situation nowadays.
