Structural relationship between the μ phase and the λ phase in the Al-Mn system

摘要
A structural relationship between the mu -Al4Mn phase and the lambda -Al4Mn phase, which are approximants of icosahedral and decagonal quasicrystals respectively, was studied from the viewpoint of the modulated structure. The difference between these phases is basically understood by the difference in the ordered arrangements of atomic vacancies in the close-packed layers (or the modulation wave-vectors). The modulation is considered to be due to the rearrangement of atomic vacancies as a response to the occurrence of charge-density waves.
