摘要
Low density (63% of theoretical) mullite ceramics with low porosity were fabricated by the reaction sintering at ~1500°C, of appropriate mixtures of coal fly ash and Al2O3 powders. The fracture strength of mullite materials appeared to be controlled by the mullite grain shape and size, and the void size. An addition of 3Y-PSZ powders inhibited grain growth of the mullite and enhanced the fracture strength.
