Energy management in sugar factories

Agreed energy targets in the German sugar industry will require an average reduction of 20% in electrical energy consumption per tonne of beet by the year 2005. This will require overall optimisation of factory operations with a Management Information System (MIS) regulating the process control systems. The Klein Wanzleben factory is used as an example of the principles involved, with particular reference to the electrical side of energy control. On this basis it is shown how future systems will work in a fully automated factory.
