Oncocytic meningioma: A case report

Oncocytic meningioma is a new, recently described histological variant of meningioma characterized by marked oncocytic differentiation of meningothelial neoplastic cells. According to our knowledge only eight cases have been previously reported in English literature and all of them curiously occurred in Italian patients. Although this tumor, not yet officially recognized by the WHO, seems to behave more aggressively and demonstrates a greater likelihood for recurrence, its real prognostic significance remains to be clarified further. We report on a case of this very rare tumor which, unlike nearly all previously reported cases, did not show histological signs indicative of aggressive behavior. Morphological features indicative of aggressive tumor behavior are discussed as well.
