摘要
This article summarizes results of a survey of 16 states regarding characteristics of universal newborn hearing screening programs as well as audiologic assessment and early intervention programs. In addition, reports of several large-scale universal newborn hearing screening programs are reviewed. Characteristics of programs including screening rates, refer rates, costs, and follow-up rates are discussed. States are making rapid progress towards achieving universal newborn hearing screening. However, several issues continue to impede the establishment of effective and comprehensive programs for screening, diagnosis, and intervention within the time frame recommended by the Joint Committee on Infant Hearing.
