摘要
English has become an international language. Therefore, the importance of English cannot be overemphasized. Nowadays, teachers and parents have attached much importance to students' learning of English. However, the outcomes of English teaching are not only affected by teachers' English language competence but also, to a considerable extent, by the didactic approach, that they adopt, students' motivation to learn, and the learning method they use. This paper discusses the potentials of using digital educational games for learning English as a foreign language. Qualitative methodology is adopted in this study-mainly through description of the features, functions and characteristics of digital educational games as well as relevant findings published in Web of Science and SCOPUS databases about the effect of using digital educational games in learning English as a foreign language. The paper suggests that digital educational games, if used appropriately, can improve the effectiveness of learning English as a foreign language. Teachers and parents are responsible for the selection of suitable digital educational games for students. It is also pointed out that digital educational games are tools for learning English as a foreign language and they can be used as a supplement for classroom teaching.
