Thermodynamic assessment of the Al-Mg system

Phase diagram of the Al-Mg system has been calculated from thermodynamic data including new recently completed measurements of the liquid phase and the critical assessment of literature data on solid alloys and phase equilibria. The calculated phase diagram is in good agreement with the previously published experimental results and assessments not accepting the existence of the "R" phase in that system. In view of several versions of the Al-Mg phase diagram in the literature, additional thermodynamic and phase equilibrium studies in the conflicting region, close to 50 at. % Mg in the solid state, should be undertaken.
