摘要
We present the rehabilitation design of the Dickey Creek Bridge, Rt. 601 in Sugar Grove VA using a 91 cm deep hybrid FRP double web beam (DWB). Using the AASHTO HS20 design criteria, we show that the DWB girders can be safely implemented in this 11.6 in span bridge to meet the modified design criteria. The efforts to assess both shear and bending section properties and assess their influence on the design are detailed. Connections of the deck to the girder and the connection of a crash tested guardrail to the structure are of particular concern and are discussed. A preliminary and comprehensive design approach is described and presented for such structures.
