In this article, I discuss the possible advantages of focusing more extensively on the history of selected areas or fields of psychology and following that history to the present time as the conclusion of the History and Systems course. The use of this topical approach may allow students to see more clearly the different insights and advantages provided by a historical perspective because they already have some knowledge of the areas being reviewed. It also may provide a more germane history for the actual discipline they are learning and lay a better foundation for the kind of integrative insights one hopes occur in this course. A short annotated bibliography of source materials for lectures and readings is provided.
