摘要
Geographic Information Systems - GISs are one of the most important tools for the analyses of the use and covering of the soil. The present research focus on the use and covering of the soil in the region of the Territory of the Cocais, in the State of Piaui, Brazil, and the huge impacts in the deforestation in the babassu production. For the analysis some images from the LandSat 5 and 8 satellites were used. With that, it was possible to build some maps of the use and occupation of the soil for 4 towns located in the Territorial of Cocais area between 1990 and 2015. It was also used some data made available by IBGE regarding the production of the babassu in the study area. The results show the increasing of the deforestation, with a rising from 2% to 8% in the study area. The study also reveals that there was a reduction of 50% of the riparian forest between 1990 and 2015. The production of the babassu coconut was reduced in 73% when compared with previous data for the years between 1975 e 2015.
