Fundamentals of practical pain management in pediatric emergency situations

Both trauma-associated and medical emergency situations are often associated with significant pain. Therefore adequate treatment by the emergency physician also requires adequate pain management. However, pain is still often treated insufficiently and unsatisfactory especially in pediatric patients. There is a great deficit in the perception and assessment of pain in children as well as in the administration of analgesics.
