An intermolecular Pauson-Khand reaction involving a carbohydrate scaffold having a pendant alkyne provides galactose derivatives with a cyclopentenone moiety in the C3-position in up to 85% yield. (C) 2008 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
