Preparation and characterisation of C(70)Ph(9)OH; The first fullerene with a single hydroxy group attached to the cage

摘要
The fullerenol C(70)Ph(9)OH is obtained as a minor product from the reaction of C70Cl10 with benzene/FeCl3 and is chiral due to the attachment of a hydroxy group and a phenyl group across the 7,8-bond; this adjacency inhibits free rotation of the 8-phenyl group.
