Analytical formulae are derived for design of a TEM00 mode dual-rod Nd:YAG laser resonator with full birefringence compensation. These formulae are expressed in a similar notation to those of Magni et al. [Appl. Opt. 25 (1986) 107] for a conventional single rod laser. The analytical method proposed here provides a simple design procedure. Furthermore, expressions are derived for the misalignment sensitivity of the laser rods and the intracavity lens to transversal displacement. Resonators in a recent publication are also analyzed by our method. (C) 2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
