摘要
The deformation and the stress state within a specified domain of soft clay foundation loaded by an embankment are analysed by using a soil/water coupled finite element program incorporated with an elasto-viscoplastic constitutive model. The embankment is placed on the old sea-bed in a polder. In addition to laboratory tests usually carried out for the design purpose, some in-situ tests are carried for the research purpose. All the test data are intentionally interpreted aiming at seeking a reasonable procedure for parameter determination. Thus specified parameters are found to be in good accordance with an accidental failure of a slope in the polder and with the settlement of the embankment. This leads to the conclusion that the use of in-situ tests in specifying the material parameters is promising in the application of finite element methods in engineering practice.
