Kinetics of reactions of Np and Pu ions with hydrazine derivatives: XV. Reduction of Pu(IV) with hydrazinopropionitrile catalyzed by Fe(III)

摘要
The Pu(IV) reaction with hydrazinopropionitrile is controlled by the steps of Pu(IV) and Fe(III) reduction. The catalytic cycle is completed by fast oxidation of Fe(II) with Pu(IV) ions. In accordance with this scheme, the rate of Pu(IV) reduction with hydrazinopropionitrile in an HNO3 solution is described by the equation -d[Pu(IV)]/dt = k(1)[Pu(IV)][NCC2H4N2H4+][HNO3](-1.5) + k(2)[Fe(III)][NCC2H4N2H4+] [HNO3](-1), where k(1) = 1.70+/-0.08 mol(1/2) l(-1/2) min(-1) and k(2) = 7.3+/-0.6 min(-1) at 19.3 degrees C and mu = 2, The activation energy of the catalytic reaction pathway is E-2 = 69.4+/-17.8 kJ mol(-1).
